I recently had to update my ROM because the phone settings became inaccessable. I got the update 354 from The install from
www.glofiish.com/Support/download.php?do=login. Make sure you login BEFORE you click the software button or it will display no downloads (even if you then login).
When you run WWE_R32_032_0354_MOT1114 updater it tells you to stop all applications running on the X500. I did this (click the icon that looks like a IC chip) but neglected to go to ALLOFF to turn off my phone.
YOU NEED TO TURN OFF WIFI PHONE BLUETOOTH AND GPS etc.
Because I didn't it got to 75% and froze up at the updaing GPSM part. Short story long I stuffed my phone and it would no longer boot up (orange screen then off). I was nearly in tears. But praise the Lord, some nice person put details of how to flash from Micro SD card. I did it and it worked! Just make sure you format the SD card in FAT not FAT32.
Here's What Edward Bos wrote (thanks Edward, your a genius):
OK, here it is (based on a previous post
http://www.eten-users.net/topic3694 but tailored for X500):
1) From your desktop PC, start the installation of the ROM Update on your PC. This step should be done without ActiveSync and USB cable connected between your desktop PC and your Eten X500 because the purpose here is to extract the two required files from the ROM Update setup files.
2) After installation, go through the installation process until the window on "END USER UPDATE" appears. Please leave this window on your taskbar.
3) Go to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Temp.
4) Look for the two files inside the Temp folder, temp.dat (about 60 MB) and USBDLUpdate_Console.exe (about 4 KB).
5) Copy the two files into your desktop PC My Documents folder and rename temp.dat to temp.bin (make sure rename the file extension from .dat to .bin)
6) Copy the USBDLUpdate_Console.exe and the renamed file temp.bin to your fresh SD Card (blank SD card without any files inside) with a card reader. SEE NOTE 1!
7) Turn on and connect your Eten AC power adapter to your Eten X500 device to safeguard against ROM update failure due to insufficient battery power on your Eten device.
8) Slot the SD card into your Eten X500 and set your device into Bootloader mode. Make sure your Eten X500 is not connected to your desktop PC via ActiveSync with USB cable. To set your Eten X500 into Bootloader mode, press and hold Power + Voice Commander, then Reset. Remove the stylus but don't release the power+voice. And... you are in the boot loader.
9) The update will begin and your device will be flashed with the ROM on the MicroSD-card at this moment of time. The update will take a slightly longer time compare to the usual ROM update via ActiveSync with USB cable connected between your Eten device and your desktop PC. This is due to the slower data transfer speed from your SD card to your Eten device.
10) After a certain period of time (about a quarter of an hour?) the boot loader installs some stuff and finishes with the GPRS thing. After this it will say something like "USB host is not connected yet...". I waited another quarter of an hour to see if this was it (I was hoping for a somewhat clearer message...), and apparently it was because I could now soft-reset the device and the problem was solved!
NOTE :-
(1) Please use a blank SD card (without any other files inside) formatted with FAT file system with card capacity between 512 MB and 1 GB.
IMPORTANT: FAT32 does not work (it took me 1 hour to figure this out...), so format in FAT !
When you set your Eten X500 into Bootloader mode and the device prompts you with this message, "Find SDMMC Card" or "SDMMC Load Fail" and your Eten device could not proceed with the ROM update, it could be your SD card may not be compatible with your Eten device.
Therefore, please try another brand of SD card that works and compatible with your Eten X500. You could also try to reformat the same SD card to FAT file system with your card reader and copy the two required files into the SD card again and try to reflash your Eten device after this.
(2) In order to change the file extension, go to your desktop PC My Computer, select Tools and then Folder Options, select View tab and uncheck "Hide extensions for known files types" option. After this click the OK tab and then you could rename the file temp.dat into temp.bin .
